Where it all began
Ella & Samuel began with a simple but powerful moment — a photo of two children, growing up in different countries, yet deeply connected.
In that moment, the idea was born to tell stories about childhood across cultures. Stories about connection, curiosity, and the unique experience of belonging to more than one place.
As an Ethiopian-German family living in Germany but closely connected to Ethiopia, we experienced both worlds very differently.
In Germany, it is easy to find activities, places, and opportunities for children. In Addis Ababa, we discovered something else — a vibrant, rich, and diverse world, but often difficult to navigate.
Finding activities meant searching across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp groups, and word of mouth. There were so many great places — but no single place that brought everything together.
This is how the idea for the platform began.
A place where families can easily discover activities, places, and experiences in Addis Ababa — without having to search everywhere.
A space that brings together what is otherwise scattered, and makes everyday life with kids simpler, more joyful, and more connected.
At the same time, another idea started to grow.
Inspired by the bond between two children, we began creating the story of Ella and Samuel — a children’s book series based on real experiences, places, and emotions.
The first book follows a treasure hunt through Addis Ababa during Ethiopian New Year. Future stories will take readers between Ethiopia and Germany, reflecting the beauty of growing up between cultures.
Ella & Samuel is for children who grow up between cultures.
